I've been seeing a lot of articles recently about the gut-brain axis and the criticality of gut health. This article addresses depression, but there is much to support the importance of gut health in fighting COVID, Long COVID, and vaccine injury.
I don't find this article to be very impressive. At most, it is a preliminary and small study of short duration (4 wks). There is a strong placebo response that is very comparable to the probiotic treatment group. While there are statistical differences found, the clinical significance of them is minimal at best. Short-term trials (4-6-8 weeks) plague the psychiatric literature and it's difficult to say what crucially will happen over the next several months to years. The Hamilton Depression scores are only in the mild to moderate range (depending on the rating system used) and in this range there is a high placebo response and/or a high degree of spontaneous improvement.
