Trump's Indictment is an Indictment of America. It's Time for Moderate Liberals to Be Courageous and Call Out the Radicals in Their Party as a Dire Threat to the United States of America
We can no longer hold our head high as the shining city on the hill: The left has arrested the leading opposition candidate on the eve of the primaries.
Bragg’s indictment of Trump says far more about us than it says about Trump.
The Washington Post reminds us that the world is watching -some laughing, some in tears. While drug dealers keep no books and Bragg turns a blind eye to their murders, Bragg claims that Trump’s business book-keeping amounted to fraud - designed to hide “other crimes”. Without identifying those “other crimes, I predict that the State of New York has no case. Here’s Jonathan Turley’s analysis on Fox News:
“We now have the indictment, and it is basically what many of us anticipated. It is a series of stacked counts of falsifying business records for the purpose of influencing the election. The indictment seems to address the lack of legal precedent with a lack of specificity on the underlying "secondary" felony. Bragg has done nothing more than replicated the same flawed theory dozens of times. This is where math and legal meet. If you multiply any number by zero, it is still zero".
The merits (or lack thereof) of the case aside, with these developments, America is losing our bully pulpit as a protector of democracy. It’s not only the charges that stink: the timing stinks, too. Trump’s case will impact his bid for the GOP nomination, and especially his ability to attract so-called swing voters. This move by Bragg may cost him the general election.
Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez, President of El Salvador, made it to Tucker Carlson’s coverage tonight:
"Think what you want about former President Trump and the reasons he’s being indicted. But just imagine if this happened in any other country, where a government arrested the main opposition candidate. The United States ability to use 'democracy' as foreign policy is gone," Bukele wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.
The reality is that Bragg’s best hope is a guilty verdict from a biased jury, but that’s not likely to work, unless the jury is stacked with communists. A Cornell University legal professor says the felonies Bragg has not, but must specify the other crimes he has alleged, and therein lies the rub: they will be difficult to prove. See: Legal experts say Trump felony charges will be difficult to prove (yahoo.com).
I’m no Trumpist. I am a Libertarian-leaning Independent, supportive of the US Constitution. If Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. decides to run a primary campaign to challenge Biden, I will of course hope for his success. But at the same time as an American, I despise the clearing of the playing field with tactics like these being used by Bragg.
I’ve warned that this precedent will lead to a political bloodbath, where politicians and appointees alike will be expeditiously dispatched and made politically untenable via arrests and charges that might even be dropped as soon as they serve no further political use.
You can see the political motives in the indictment. The Judge won’t see it, although I encourage legal eagles to share their analyses with the judge as an amicus curiae brief explaining the harms to our national reputation, and worse: what we expect, and accept, from and for ourselves.
Shall we descend into a political future of political assassination via targeted arrests?
Read the rhetoric being used by some on the right calling for charges against Biden (just as I predicted):
GOP calls for Biden charges after Trump indictment (nypost.com)
Given the events of 11/4/2023, it stands to ‘tit-for-tat’ reason that Bill Clinton - whom I voted for - twice (relax, I’m a “recovering Liberal”)- should be tried for hush money payments. Am I wrong?
Wait. Stop a minute. Who in history has arrested their political opponents?
That would be the likes of Putin. Hussein. Hitler. Pol Pot. CCP.
Who censored what their citizens could say, write, read, and hear?
Same guys.
Many legacy media companies black-screened part of Trump’s post-indictment speech from Mar-a-Lago, most tellingly after Trump told the crowd about the election pollsters who found a 17-point difference in the outcome of the 2020 election favoring Trump - by a lot - if Facebook and Twitter had not censored discussion of Hunter Biden’s “Laptop from Hell”. Trump promoted a book by that name during his speech at Mar-a-Lago.
The war on America by the radical left is well underway. The problem for them is their tactics are clearly un-American, and out there for all to see.
If you’re a moderate Liberal, these developments should not buoy your spirits: you should be outraged and afraid for the USA. You should be ready for action: It’s time for courage. Call out the radical left and work to replace them with moderates. Mostly importantly, like your predecessor generation admonished themselves: THINK. Who stands to gain the most from this type of descent into chaos in the US?
The price of continued leftist extremist liberal power is too great: America will not survive these tactics.
