The culmination of decades of perverse incentives and the systemic destruction of medical education in the US.
The denial of effective therapies and the slavish adherence to institutional mandates had made doctors little more than drones for the system. The few that said no or stayed in the system to fight, are deserving of the right and privilege to be called healers (and keep their licenses).
