ABOUT DR. PETOSKY

Nick Petosky is an interdisciplinary researcher focusing on global health events through the lens of medical anthropology. His university work began in herpes virus epidemiology. He continues examining iatrogenic-associated trends in human disease spanning the 20th century.

The history of experimental biology profoundly intersects with public health in many ways. From the era of the Rockefeller Virus Program to the current debacle of the COVID biologics, the chilling effects of experimentation tracing back to the Cold War are still felt today. As fervor for inoculation surged in the 20th century, and the Cutter Incident contamination event led to a Polio Vaccine race, a rubicon of risk was crossed. This webinar will review important literature, bringing into focus a little-known domain: Medical Primatology. This is the research born out of the Cold War which pursued simian oncogenic agents. Petosky will highlight the laboratory work around Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (Chimpanzee) and offer the most compelling evidence pointing to the likely origins of HIV.
